Dataw Island Morgan River Course

This week nationally syndicated television show Golf America pays a visit to historical Dataw Island and profiles the Morgan River Course designed by the late Arthur Hills.

The Morgan River Course, which opened in 1993, is the second golf course built at this private club. The first layout was the Tom Fazio-designed Cotton Dike Course.

“The genius of Arthur Hills’ design work is evident throughout this golf course”, says Executive Producer Alan Hunter. “Though shorter than its sibling Cotton Dike, Morgan River is a much narrower layout with plenty of undulation on all of the fairways. So he places a premium on shot accuracy, both off the tee and on your approach shots into all of the greens.”

The program will also take viewers on a tour of historic Beaufort, the second oldest city in South Carolina and one of the best places in America to retire to. Plus, PGA Professional Chris Fearn demonstrates the proper technique for hitting out of a green-side bunker, and TPI Certified golf fitness coach Mindi Boysen offers up an exercise routine to help golfers develop more energy through the impact zone.

Apart from its two outstanding golf courses, the club features a tennis center with eight Har-Tru courts. The tennis center was named “Best Private Tennis Facility” in 2017. Dataw also offers a pair of croquet lawns and hosts several regional croquet events each year, including 6-wicket, golf croquet, Aussie croquet, USCA-sanctioned tournament, and invitational tournaments. Adjacent to the croquet lawns is a resort-style pool. Other amenities at Dataw include a fitness center with a lap pool, Bocce and Pickleball courts, and a full-service marina.
